Marketed as the Kia Bongo and also known as the Kia K-Series or Kia Pregio, the KIA K2700 is a pickup truck manufactured by Kia Motors.
It was first launched in 1980 under the name Bongo. The second generation and third generation Bongo Frontier was launched in 1997. As of 2004, the Kia Bongo was in its fourth version, the Kia Bongo III. "Frontier" was dropped from the name with this revision.
The 3rd generation Bongo Frontier was introduced in 2000 and was given a facelift from the previous model, while the 4th generation became known as the Kia Bongo III, and the model was also facelifted.
The KIA K2700 is targeted for a new market; commercial light vehicles and light trucks and was launched in 1999. The engine on the Kia 2700 is a 2.7 litre diesel that delivers a maximum power of 57kW at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 172/Nm at 2400 rpm
It has a 60 litre tank and has been designed to ensure low carbon emissions. The Kia 2700 is a light truck, 5.1 metres long, designed for carriage of load for commercial purposes. The cargo area measures 3.1 metres by 1.6 metres. It has a payload of 1,500 kg and a towing capacity of 1,400 kg and an unbraked capacity of 700kg.
It has a generous internal storage space, with the middle seats folding down and a large glovebox and two cup holders.
It comes as a five speed manual gearbox that uses the power effectively to obtain maximum use of engine torque. Its strength is defined by the firm suspension; double wishbone with torsion beam at the front; leaf spring at the back and advanced noise-reduction technology to allow audibility for entertainment.
It can carry load of up to 3.3 tonnes and the power steering puts the 3.3 tonnes of truck easily around the 4.93 minimum turning radius. It has a 4 sensor ABS brakes with EBD.
The Kia 2700 seats a maximum of three people and two if the middle seat is folded down. It has ample legroom around the cloth upholstered seats. It comes standard with adjustable steering wheel, power windows, height adjustable headrests and air conditioning, a digital clock and an ergonomically designed driver's seat that slides and reclines. It has a ground clearance of 150 mm. It has an overall weight of 1530kg; overall length of 4830 mm and width of 1760 mm, a height of 1980mm, supported by a wheelbase of 2390 mm.
The front suspension of the K2700 is characterized by a thicker anti-roll bar, new gas shock absorbers and reworked suspension bushes which allows for effective control of wheel angle, while the back suspension has larger shock absorbers and revised leaf springs for greater stability.
Attention has been paid to other safety aspects, with larger and bright headlights on both low and high beam and bigger door mirrors with each mirror containing a small wide-angle convex mirror to supplement the larger conventional mirror.
The K2700 has air-conditioning, digital CD stereo, electric windows and remote central locking, coming as standard.
