Volkswagen Transporter Crew Bus Motoring Review
The Volkswagen Transporter Crew Bus is a multi-purpose people carrier. Available in the standard 5-seater or the optional 8-seater configuration, the Crew Bus is as versatile as your business or personal needs dictate. Historically, these vehicles retain much of their value for years to come and usually fetch an excellent price on the Used Cars market too.
From the outside the Transporter Crew Bus looks the part of a vehicle meant for function and versatility. It has a large windscreen and rear view mirrors allowing maximum visibility. There is a robust front bumper with front fog lights sunk in on either side. The Crew Bus's headlights and front grille which houses the VW badge bring the picture together uniformly. The front driver and passenger doors open wide and there are 2 sliding doors (left and right, with windows) allowing easy and versatile access into the back seating area. At the back are rear fog lights and a sizeable trunk lid with heated rear window glass. There is an option to specify a towbar preparation in these vehicles which includes trailer stabilisation when combined with VW's genuine 7-pin electrical kit. The Crew Bus either comes with 16” or 17” steel wheels, depending on client's choice.
The Crew Bus interior is comfortable and adequate whether the vehicle is being used for business purposes or for families. There is a 4 speaker Radio/CD system with the antenna integrated in its exterior mirrors. The Crew Bus comes with a climatic air-conditioning system which is semi-automatic for the cab, although back passenger aircon is an optional extra. It has Power Steering as well as electrically adjustable windows for the front. There is a hard-wearing rubber floor for both front cab and back seating area and an illuminated step at the sliding doors. Front doors both have 2 stowage pockets and integrated bottle holders inside the cab door. Seating upholstery is well-cushioned and supported and passenger benches are forward fold-able. VW offers a plethora of optional extras like park distance control, electric exterior mirrors, a security package (including radio remote controlled central locking, alarm system) and a comfort package (which includes Cruise control, full air conditioner and integrated fog lights). There is also a 'Lane Change Assist' system that alerts the driver if there is a another vehicle in its blind spot as part of visibility pack which also comes with rain-sensing wipers, auto-dim rear view mirror and cruise control.
The Transporter Crew Bus is available in a short or long wheel base version and either comes with a 75kW or 132kW diesel engine derivative. Following on from this there are a further 5 different engine specifications for the SWB and 3 different engine specifications in the LWB version expanding the range of this versatile car even more.
