Sales of motorcycles and quads are gaining slightly but there’s still not too much to shout about.
Sales of motorcycles and quads in May 2010 reached 1623 units compared to 1514 in April, said Maurice Britten, National Director of AMID.
“Year to date sales are down just under 23 % year-on-year. Growth areas are being led by scooters at 14.1 % up year-to-date with competition units growing 3.5 %. Other classes that are steady with minimal decline are the 151 – 800cc class, Trail bikes and Off-road. Quads continue to decline 45 % year on year, thereby affecting the overall picture negatively. If motorcycle sales are taken separately then the decline has slowed to just under 17 %. This has been the trend since January when the decline stood at 25%”
