FOLLOWING the success of the Legend 35, Toyota introduced us to the Legend 40 - which aims to cater for varying budgets and the needs of its diverse range of customers. It’s this notion that could see the Hilux dominance continue to grow.
Models range from two single cab versions to seven double cab variants - beginning with the 2.7 VVT-i four cylinder all the way to the powerful 4.0 V6 petrol engine - along with four automatic versions also available in the double cab range.
However, the only way to visually distinguish the Legend 40 from its lesser siblings is the use of stainless steel and chrome, which can be found in the front grille and door handles and, of course, the Legend 40 decals round off the new Hilux’s external finishings.
Inside the vehicle one finds a Legend 40 carpet set, a pretty good sound system and a full leather trip (doors, steering wheel and gear knob).
However beyond all this, little else has changed, and why should it? The Legend 40 still goes as well as its predecessor and enjoys the proven Hilux reliability that ensures its customers hassle-free mileage. And it’s this proven consistency by Toyota that has made the Hilux the country’s top selling vehicle through the years.
The purchase price of the Hilux Legend 40 ranges from R334 900 to R434 100. All models are sold with a 5-year/90 000km ToyotaCare Service plan and have 10 000km service intervals.
But in order to ensure the Legend 40’s exclusivity and collectability, Toyota has commissioned a limited production run on the vehicle.
