At the launch of the revised BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible last week, we were greeted with the words “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Indeed, the changes are subtle to say the least. New bumpers, front and rear, as well as a redesigned kidney grille and refined head- and tail-light designs mean discerning old from new is nearly impossible to the untrained eye.
What is all-new is the engine that now inhabits the 335i model in all 3 Series body styles.
“You’re basically here to drive a new engine,” was the explanation of why we had flown to Durban. And what an engine!
The Sedan, Coupé and Convertible 335i models now come with a 3.0-litre straight-six featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC valve management combining supreme output of 225kW with fuel economy and CO2 management once again enhanced by a significant margin. BMW have also announced a limited run of the new Dynamic Edition of the 3 Series Sedan.
The BMW 3 Series Dynamic Edition is available only on the 320i, 320d and 335i models and is based on M Sport Model underpinnings. The Dynamic Edition also makes extensive use of BMW Performance Carbon Fibre parts (front splitter, mirror caps and rear spoiler) which complement the dark chrome 18-inch alloy wheels and dark chrome tail pipes.
Furthermore, the BMW 3 Series Sedan Dynamic Edition is only available in Alpine White, Blue Water Metallic and Space Grey Metallic exterior paint colours and will be limited to just 300 units.
