Further to your article which mentioned the illegal fines levied by the JMPD in 2008, I thought that my experience might be interesting. The www.payfine.co.za web site has all the details so I confidently filled in claim forms for my two illegal fines and faxed them off. Of course nothing happened. The site also indicated that a website would be set up in “early 2009” to facilitate claims but again, of course, nothing has happened.
To give the façade of efficiency the site also gives two phone numbers which can be used to check progress on the refunds, This is again another joke - one number rings for hours on end without being answered, the other is definitely in a location with people as on at least three occasions when I have rung, the phone has been picked up and slammed down again.
