Volvo’s new take on a Cross Country

WE ARE used to seeing Cross Country variants within the Volvo stable. However, these are usually based on estate cars. Now, the Swedes have produced a raised version of the Volvo S60 sedan.

Dimensions have changed

Volvo S60 Cross Country, like the V70 Cross Country shares an increased ride height of 65mm and comes with an all-wheel-drive system of its sibling with front-wheel-drive variants being considered too.

But why?

“The Volvo S60 Cross Country is the sole contender in the crossover sedan segment. We have identified a clear niche in the market for a more capable sedan with rugged styling cues and a higher stance,” said a Volvo spokesman.

The S60 Cross Country offers both 18 and 19-inch wheels with high profile tyres along with the familiar S60 saloon design language.

Engine and transmission

The T5 all-wheel-drive model produces 187kW while there’s also a 140kW diesel D4, both featuring the brand’s Drive-E powertrain architecture.

Local availability

At this stage there are no plans for theVolvo S60 Cross Country to be sold locally.
