The Volvo brand is on the up with exciting models coming up in the future. But in terms of the V40 it has come to a point in the vehicle’s lifecycle where it is in need of an update, which Volvo has shared with us.
Different but the same
Before we get into the change made for the 2016 model year let’s look at what remains the same. Customers will still have the option of three diesel and three petrol engines, as well as four trim levels.
V40 now with Thor’s Hammer and a new grille
Volvo’s light signature, known as Thor’s Hammer, will now be available on the new V40 and V40 Cross Country models along with full LED Active Bending headlight technology. There is also a new front grille design along with the Volvo Iron Mark.
New exterior hues
The addition of five colours to the V40 range round-off the exterior changes. The colours include: Amazon blue and Denim blue, as well as three colours already used by other models in the Volvo Cars portfolio: bursting blue, mussel blue and luminous sand.
It inherits trim names from the XC90
Expect the V40 to get trim options seen in the XC90 such as Momentum and Inscription that see new alloy wheel designs and trim combinations in the V40 and V40 Cross Country ranges.
New interior options
The hit ‘City Weave’ upholstery option has been included along with a new Charcoal/Blond steering wheel option. There are also new interior panel trims offered: milled aluminium, black grid aluminium and stealth aluminium. Accent trim colours in the door inserts will now be offered with contrasting stitching and for the first time a black headliner will be available as an option on all models in the V40 range. New tread plates will be added for the R-Design and Inscription trim levels and an updated key fob with the new Volvo logo will be available.
The interior also benefits from Clean Zone in the climate and air-conditioning system, which filters the outside air ensuring lower interior emissions, less odour, cleaner surfaces and less exposure to allergy-causing particles.
Volvo on Call updated
The Volvo on Call smartphone app has received an update however it must be said that this technology is not available locally as yet but is being planned for in future.
When will it arrive?
The updated Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country range arrives in South Africa in the third quarter of 2016.
