Dave Milne has purchased his 51st vehicle from Bates GM. That is a remarkable achievement. “Not too bad,” said Dave, with a chuckle.
It first started way back in 1982, when Rob Allchin had the dealership in Harding and Dave was farming sugar in Murchison.
“We had the farm and I had a lot of pickups in my time. I'd say the Frontera was the best I had. Over the years I've driven some great vehicles, like the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Captiva,” he said.
“When the new Opel Mokka came out Bates made sure I was given the chance to buy one of the first ones,” said Dave.
He's now driving the new version of the Captiva, which he took delivery of at the new showroom in Shelly Beach on Tuesday this week.
“It's a very, very nice vehicle. I showed it to friend Paul van Tichelen and he was most impressed,” added Dave.
He said the only reason he kept going back was because of the wonderful service, starting with Rob, and then on to his sons, Roger and Noel, as well as the other staff.
Dave, now 80, is happily retired and lives at Mbango Valley, although he spends much of his time on the fairways of Port Shepstone Country Club.
He's playing off a 20, but claims that his handicap is 'golf'!
