Here are 6 things you need to know about the new C63 AMG, which is due for local introduction later this year.
- Trick suspension- The latest C63 makes use of a four-link suspension, independent steering knuckles and a wider track, while at the rear, the multilink system uses independent mounts and an increase in negative camber. The suspension will also feature AMG ride control which is an electronically-controlled three-stage damper system, ranging from comfort through to track settings. The pièce de résistance is a mechanical locking rear differential fitted to the C63, while the C63 S gets an electronic version.
- Powerful heart-Gone is the old 6.2-litre V8 and in its place the M177 engine, a 3 982cc twin turbocharged V8 that produces a monstrous 350kW/650Nm in standard guise and 375kW/700Nm in the S model. Mated with this engine, is the AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed transmission which has been upgraded to improve shift times.
- Performance- The figures are impressive: 0-100km/h is dispatched in 4.1 seconds for the ‘regular’ C63 and 4.0 seconds for the C63 S, while both are electronically limited to 250 km/h.
- Keeping weight down- Thanks to the use of the 205 series aluminium and steel chassis, the new car tips the scale at 1 715kg which is heavier than the M Division’s challenger, but thanks to its power advantage this should even itself out.
- New inside and out- The exterior design features deep air dams to help feed air into the intercoolers, while we see a new AMG grille and a bonnet with a power dome. The rear bumper is also redesigned to house the four exhaust pipes. Inside, there are special sports seats, AMG steering wheel, AMG instrument panel and an IWC clock for good measure.
