A Renault that likes getting dusty

HOT ON the heels of Ford, Renault is introducing its own small SUV to the South African market. It’s called the Duster and will arrive in four short weeks.

The base-model Duster - 1.6 Expression 4x2 - will retail for R194 900 and come with a high level of specification. Standard features include air conditioning, ABS with EBD, power steering, trip computer, front and side airbags, front and rear electric windows, central locking, parking sensors, 16-inch wheels, radio/CD/MP3 with Bluetooth connectivity and remote audio controls on the steering wheel. That’s a lot of standard kit for a car that retails for less than R200 000.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine delivers 75kW and 145Nm of torque. It should work nicely with the compact dimensions, but we’ll reserve comment until we drive it.

The Duster line-up will also include diesel and 4x4 derivatives. We’ll tell you more about this cheeky little off-roader once we’ve attended the launch in early September.
