A small taste of the Jeep Renegade

LATER this month our editor, Sean Nurse, will be sampling the all-new Jeep Renegade. If you’re keen to find out more about this new Jeep then we have some highlights for you, right here.

For starters, the all-new Jeep Renegade expands the brand's vehicle line-up, entering the growing, small, sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment, while staying true to the adventurous lifestyle and 4x4 capability that Jeep is known for.The new Jeep Renegade is also the first vehicle in the Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s group to be jointly developed by Italian and American designers as well as engineers, and the first model in the brand's history to be built in Italy.

Jeep Renegade seems to be a model packed with a strong stylistic personality. Agile and spacious, it is perfect for errands across town and with its off-road capabilities it’s ready to explore the great African bush. There are two new, advanced 4x4 systems, namely Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low, which incorporate a category-exclusive rear axle disconnect system that seamlessly switches between two and four-wheel-drive for reduced energy loss when 4x4 capability isn't needed, thereby improving fuel efficiency in the process. Sean will bring us more information on this in his launch impression of the new Jeep Renegade.

The Jeep Renegades interior features a rugged and energetic appearance that builds upon the brand's heritage. According to Jeep, when the designers began the interior design process, they started with a fresh canvas and a simple design brief by creating a small SUV that they themselves would aspire to own. This objective is apparent in the Renegade's dynamic lines, hand-sculpted forms and emotional character.

As for powertrains, well, we don’t want to give too much away. However, we can speculate that because of the Fiat and Alfa collaboration there will be some engine sharing and we have heard reports of a nine-speed automatic gearbox being used in the mix.

We suggest you keep an eye on our Facebook page as well as our Twitter handle for more information.

Be sure to read Sean’s impressions on the Renegade in the next couple of weeks.
