AMG celebrates 50 years with Japan only Mercedes-Benz G-class

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, and possible farewell to the current W463 generation G-class, Mercedes-AMG have released yet another limited edition version of its iconic off-roader, this time for the Japanese market only.

Limited to just 50 units with a price tag of ¥22.2-million (R2 611 164), the 50th Anniversary Edition boasts a special designo Mauritius Blue paint finish, black bumpers, wheel arch extensions, mirrors and roof, red brake callipers, chrome sidesteps, black 20-inch AMG alloy wheels and black spare wheel cover.

The interior meanwhile offers a choice of four designo leather finishes; black, black / tan, brown and black / cream, with diamond quilted trimmed seats and door panels, contrasting Mauritius Blue stitching, lashes of chrome and carbon fibre inserts.

Motive power is kept unchanged with the 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 still producing 420 kW and 760 Nm, enough to blast the G from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, and on to a limited top speed of 210 km/h.
