Another new bakkie, the Renault Alaskan

04.07.2016

It seems as if many manufacturers are jumping onto the bakkie wagon. Fiat now have a bakkie, the Fullback and Mercedes-Benz have been looking into building one. Now Renault has built one, the Alaskan. Alaska means 'Great Land' and we have details.

Our bakkie segment is a rather contested one with those that are already established within it constantly fighting for the publics attention. So what does the new Renault Alaskan have to offer?

For starters, the Renault Alaskan is a one-tonne bakkie that takes a completely fresh approach to the bakkie segment, including a stunning look that incorporates an imposing front-end.

The Alaskan is set to be quite advanced, with a cutting edge five-link rear suspension and a tough, fully boxed frame.

The Alaskan is a vehicle that combines outstanding offroad ability and best-in-class fuel economy with the incorporation of the Renault 2.3-litre dCi engine under the bonnet, a 2.5-litre will also be available. So far a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed automatic transmission, plus two or four-wheel drive derivatives are on offer. We are not sure what exact specifications South Africans can expect but we will be sure to keep you updated.

More details will follow closer to its launch time.
