Audi Q8 caught lapping the 'Ring

Already shown in concept form at the recent Detroit and Geneva Motor Shows, spy photographers have captured the pre-production version of the new Audi Q8 undergoing testing at the Nürburgring.

As per previous reports, the coupe-like Q8 will ride on the same MLB architecture as the Q7 and rival the likes of the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe, as well as debuting new styling elements bound to feature on future Audi models.

Engine options are still unknown but it is widely expected that the Q8 will use the same range of TFSI and TDI engines as the Q7, with rumours also circulating that the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 used in various RS models could also make an appearance.

Like the concept shown in Geneva, a plug-in hybrid option could also feature although it remains to be seen if this will have the same 350 kW / 700 Nm 3.0 TFSI V6 petrol-electric configuration in production spec.
