There will be an S1 as well as an S1 Sportback.Its 2.0-litre TFSI engine kicks out 170kW and 370Nm and is mated with a six-speed manual gearbox as well as Quattro all-wheel-drive. In terms of performance, the S1 will sprint to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds and the Sportback in 5.9 seconds onto a top speed of over 250km/h.
To help it through the twisties, the S1 has a sports suspension system and an electromechanical power steering.
Expect 17-inch wheels as standard with optional 18-inch items. Xenon plus headlights - which are linked to LED rear lights with new horizontally structured graphics - are standard.
The interior features high gloss air vent sleeves that have a piano-black finish, which are contrasted by the stainless steel foot pedals.
There are standard sports seats along with climate control, a six-speaker audio system with auxiliary and iPod connection as well as SD card reader linked to a 6.5-inch retractable colour display, a Bluetooth interface and a driver’s information system.
The S1 is expected to reach local shores in the fourth quarter of 2014.
