Autodealer brings Christmas to the Haven Care Centre

Autodealer recently decided to kick-off the festive season by visiting the Haven Care Centre in Benoni, Ekurhuleni and warming the hearts of the less fortunate by providing them with gifts and essentials.

The home was founded in 1999, Betty Crellin and Pem Morgan, identified the need of assisting destitute families, decided to begin a Care Centre in Benoni.

During the ensuing 15 years, hundreds of families as well as single men, women and children, have benefited from the facilities and care provided by the organisation.

At present, on an agricultural holding in Benoni North, 48 residents are housed, clothed, fed and their basic needs attended to. Adult residents are giving meaningful employment and are paid a stipend whilst efforts are made to re-integrate them into the mainstream of society. Children are registered with local schools and are transported to and from school daily. School uniforms, lunches and materials are provided for the children and assistance given with homework and extramural activities.

The Haven Care Centre is fortunate that over the years, corporate and private donors have assisted in making it possible to survive and meet the needs of the residents. However, with ever increasing inflation and more and more indigent people knocking on the door, The Haven Care Centre requires a constant inflow of funds to add to the existing residential facilities, as well as cover the costs of utilities, transportation, food and other necessary items.

Other projects where The Haven Care Centre has identified a need include a Soup Kitchen, a Children’s Educational Centre and, when possible, coastal holidays for children who have never had the privilege of visiting a coastal area. The Haven Care Centre is also involved with a local Home for The Aged and from time to time the residents receive hampers and are entertained and treated to a fun day.

Administration costs are kept to a minimum and the bulk of income generated goes towards the needs of the residents.

The Haven Care Centre believes in treating all the residents with dignity and consideration. Residents are not expected to collect donations by standing at street corners and trawling through shopping malls. It is for this reason that fund raising projects are generated for the benefit of all.
