That’s all changed now. A few specs on the new powerplant were leaked at one of BMW’s technology days. The M3 and M4 will have a high-revving 3.0-litre six-cylinder with BMW’s TwinPower turbo technology.
Output will be somewhere in the region of 316kW with more than 500Nm on tap. The M3’s weight has also been kept as low as possible (less than 1 500kg), so at least we know it will go like a bat out of hell. The new car will also consume around 25% less fuel than the one it replaces. Friedrich Nitschke, the man in charge of BMW’s M division, also hinted at a hardcore, lightweight version of the M3. You know, for the family man who’s just that little bit more of an adrenaline junkie than the rest of us.
