Bid for final edition Mitsubishi Evo passes R1-million mark

A piece of performance motoring history is set to end later today when the final iteration of Mitsubishi's rally-derived Lance Evo is auctioned off for charity.

Based on the US-spec GSR, the Evo X FE 1600 features a number of unique touches, namely dark chromed finished 18-inch Enkei alloy wheels, sodium filled exhaust valves, black painted aluminium roof, gloss black bumper and bonnet vents, red stitching on the steering wheel, gear lever, seats and handbrake, and Final Edition badging.

Power, as it was throughout the Evo's 24 year lifespan, comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine developing 225 kW and 413 N.m of torque, with a five-speed manual gearbox providing traction to all four wheels.

Listed for sale on eBay since September eighth, the final proceeds will be donated to Feeding America and the Second Harvest Food Bank as part of Hunger Action month in the US. A short while ago, bidding had reached $71 200 (R1 021 378), well above the standard GSR's $34 495 (R494 837) sticker price.
