Big power for Merc's A-class

14.02.2013

MERCEDES-BENZ and AMG, two companies synonymous with bi-turbo V8 engines, have made a four-cylinder powertrain for the new A-class

It sounds extremely boring, until you realise that this specific engine is the most powerful series production four-cylinder engine in the world.

The 2.0-litre turbo engine in the Mercedes A45 AMG has a maximum output of 270kW and 450Nm of torque. Merc also claims that this ridiculously powerful engine delivers a class-leading fuel-consumption figure of 6.9 litres/100km.

In designing and developing the A45 AMG, the experts at AMG have drawn on the company's decades of experience in motorsport and the production of powerful, high-performance vehicles. As such, it will inherit the corporate DNA and embody the AMG brand claim "Driving Performance" to perfection.

"The A45 AMG will enable Mercedes-AMG to appeal to new customers and tap new markets," observes Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “We are adding an extremely attractive model with exceptional performance to our range of unique high-performance automobiles."

The high power and torque output and the combination with the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive allows the car to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds, while its top speed stands at 250km/h (electronically limited).
