Changing faces of the Mercedes C-Class

BEGINNING in late 20l4, Mercedes-Benz will expand its C Class family with the new Estate model.

The fourth generation Estate has a stylish sporty design and cargo volume greater than its predecessor. It measures 4,702mm and 2,840mm in overall length and wheelbase accordingly and is 96mm longer and has an increase of 80mm in the wheel base.

Mercedes-Benz says these changes help increase legroom for rear-seat passengers by 45mm, with a five-litre volume increase to 490 when the rear seats are folded down. Adding to that, the rear seats now have a 40 : 20 : 40 split instead of the 60 : 40 split in the predecessor and the Easy Park power lift gate and optional Hands-free Access system allows opening and closing the tailgate without touching it.

Smart features include head-up display, a feature that projects information directly into the driver’s field of vision, ensuring less distraction from the road ahead. The system informs about vehicle speed, signed speed limits and navigation instructions. The driver has a range of driving options to choose from: Comfort, ECO, Sport and Sport+ as well as the additional Individual option.

The new Estate is the only vehicle in its segment to offer tunnel detection via satellite navigation and a package of Air Balance is also available. The Saloon also offers multimedia generation, and is equipped with the Front bass system, a Burmester® surround sound system as an option, COMMAND Online, USB/CD/DVD/, Bluetooth, Audio and Video.

Advanced safety features include: Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, BAS Plus with Cross-traffic Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and a multitude of optional assistance schemes including Active Parking Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and safety belts.

In terms of performance, there are three turbocharged options initially available, a 125kW 2.1-litre diesel for C220, 150kW for C250 Bluetec and 135kW 2.0-llitre petrol engine.
