Citroën launches new facelifted C3

A CITROËN supermini can never be too stylish and the French manufacturer has introduced a package of changes to prove that point.

According to Citroën, this package adds mechanical zest, visual appeal and enhanced driving pleasure.

The introduction of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Puretech engine provides the mechanical zest. This powertrain replaces the previous 1.4-litre unit and combines impressive efficiency with peppy performance due to the fact that - with 60kW - it actually generates 6kW (or 15%) more power than the 1.4 litre, while delivering the same amount of torque. Fuel consumption is claimed to drop as low as 4.7 litres/100km, with a Co2 rating of 109g/km (25% less than the 1.4).

The alternatives to the new addition are a pair of 1.6-litre powerplants: the petrol VTi (88kW/160Nm) and diesel Hdi 90 AIRDREAM, which delivers 68kW and 230Nm of torque. The diesel engine with e-HDi technology sports the most efficient start/stop system on the market, with Co2 emissions as low as 98g/km and fuel consumption of 3.7 litres/100km. The 1.2 Puretech and 1.6 e-HDi derivatives are also emissions-tax free.

In terms of visual appeal, the C3 now boasts more assertive styling thanks to bumper-mounted LED daytime running lights (on the Seduction and Exclusive models) and more prominent chevrons running the width of the nose to the inner edges of the headlights. A deeper front air intake with honeycomb mesh also brings it in line with other Citroën models. All these elements combine for a car that has become more sophisticated and grown-up.

Changes at the rear are more subtle. The chrome eyebrow above the tail-light clusters now features distinctive 'pockets' for each lighting function. The colour range now expands to six choices with the introduction of Ink Blue.

With a cabin that is now even more appealing on a tactile as well as sensory level, the new C3 now provides greater driving pleasure.

The famous Zenith roof continues on the Exclusive model, while touches of chrome and a new dashboard cross strip (finished in Tungsten or Moondust, depending on the model) add a distinctive style. Both strip colours complement the C3's new upholstery, which with three distinct textures combine sportiness, warmth and support.

In terms of safety, all three trim levels (Attraction, Seduction and Exclusive) feature ABS plus EBD, OBA, Isofix anchorages, impact tensioning seatbelts and side-impact protection. The Exclusive model boasts six airbags, the Seduction four and the Attraction two.

All Citroën C3 models will come standard with a 3-year/100 000km warranty (with optional extension to five years) and a 4-year/60 000km service plan.
