Concept Volkswagen Atlas puts family first

Set to be one of its star attractions at this weekend's Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen has unveiled fully accessorised concept version of its seven-seat Atlas SUV, dubbed the Weekend Edition.

Using the flagship 3.6 VR6 SEL Premium as a base, the Weekend Edition gets 18-inch anthracite finished Prisma alloy wheels, a pop-up roof box known as Urban Loader by Volkswagen, cargo netting behind the second row seating aimed at providing safe transportation for your pet, heavy-duty boot liner carpeting, special body cladding, satin silver running boards and skid plates, and a rear cargo cover.

Up front the, VR6 continues unchanged with power rated at 206 kW and drive going to all four wheels via a eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox. As previously reported, the Atlas is not expected to debut locally anytime soon as it will only be made in left-hand-drive.
