Dakar: Third not enough for de Villiers - Stage 11

The 2014 Dakar Rally is coming to an epic conclusion, particularly in the car section with Nani Roma and Stephane Peterhansel both gunning for this years title.

Stage 11 of this year’s edition of the Dakar Rally saw Argentinean Orlando Terranova take his first stage win in the 2014 event when he finished over 10 minutes ahead of overall leader Nani Roma. It was another brilliant day for South Africa’s Giniel de Villiers as he finished the stage in third, but still dropped to fifth overall after Terranova’s strong result.

The 605km special stage that the motorcycle competitors were presented with on day 11 was the longest of their rally so far. It was also one of the most diverse in terms of terrain with hard ground, mountains and 120km of sand and dunes.
Yesterday’s leader Marc Coma stamped his authority over the event with yet another stage victory, which puts him 52 minutes ahead of Joan Barreda who took a tumble in the stage and could only muster a fifth place finish on the day.
