Drop top BMW i8 spied chilling

Pictured last month undergoing testing in Germany, fresh images of the BMW i8 Spyder being winter weather tested have emerged online.

Snapped this time with the soft top roof up, the still camouflaged prototype does however provide a glimpse of what to expect from the facelifted i8, notably a slightly redesigned front bumper and updated grille. Widely expected to retain the 1.5-litre petrol / electric drivetrain, power will reportedly go up by 11 kW compared to current model for a total system output of 277 kW.

Other notable upgrades mulled include revised suspension, a 10 kWh battery versus the 7.1 kWh being used at present and new autonomous tech.

Sales of the Spyder and regular Coupe are likely to commence next year.
