Fiftieth anniversary Shelby Super Snake slithers in

Following the reveal of the facelifted Ford Mustang earlier this week, iconic tuner Shelby American used the recent Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona to unveil the 50th anniversary edition model of the Shelby Super Snake.

The result of a collaboration between Shelby and Ford Performance, the Super Snake uses the current Mustang GT as a base, but receives upgraded brakes with six-rotor callipers, improved suspension and a supercharger which allows the 5.0-litre to produce between 449 kW and 559 kW.

Able to reach 100 km/h from standstill in 3.5 secs, visual differences over the standard GT consists of a new bonnet, Super Snake grille, new front splitter, rear boot spoiler, 50th anniversary badging, rear diffuser and, in traditional Shelby fashion, racing stripes.

Limited to just 500 units, prices start at $69 995 (R946 521) although don't expect the Super Snake to became locally soon as it will only be made in left-hand drive.
