Ford Ranger has officially dethroned the Toyota Hilux

WITH better-than-average sales figures, the Ford Ranger has officially dethroned the Toyota Hilux as both the best-selling Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) and overall best-selling vehicle in South Africa, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers South Africa (Naamsa) sales figures released for April.

Selling 3 095 units - compared to Toyota’s 2 105 Hilux units - the Ford Ranger has scooped up the top position for a second time.

Ford also dominated the compact SUV segment with the Ford EcoSport, selling 837 units during April.

Ford Motor Company of South Africa (FMCSA) sold a total of 6 483 units last month, increasing its volume sales by 24.5 percent compared to April 2014. FMCSA now also holds an overall market share of 16.3 percent.

The total of 30 184 new cars sold during the April 2015 period is a slight decline of 1.9 percent compared to 30 778 new cars sold in April last year.

The LCV segment reported more grim news with a decline of six percent new vehicle sales. The total of 1 077 LCVs sold for April 2015, compared to the 12 851 units sold a year ago.

According to Naamsa, the domestic new vehicle sales had been partially affected by the public holidays during April.
