Forthcoming PSA pick-up to use Toyota Hilux platform?

Less than a day after announcing a partnership with China's Changan to develop a new pick-up truck by 2020, Britain's Auto Express has alleged that the yet as unnamed new PSA Group pick-up could use the same platform as the Toyota Hilux.

According to the publication, the newcomer, which will be produced at Changan's Dingzhou plant and initially limited to China only, will eventually make its way to other markets and according to PSA, increase its LCV volume by some 30%.

The likely use of the same platform as the Hilux will rate as the second commercial vehicle partnership agreement between PSA and Toyota, with the latter currently selling a rebadged version of the Citroen Space Tourer MPV and its Jumpy panel van equivalent, as well as the Peugeot Traveller / Expert, in Europe as the ProAce Verso and ProAce van.

Contraire to previous reports however, the report also claims that the new pick-up could possibly be introduced under a different PSA owned brand, which apart from Peugeot and Citroen includes DS, Vauxhall and Opel.
