03.10.2017

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has recorded a fourth straight increase in the sales of new vehicles during September, with exports ending in the green after declining in August.

Aggregate total domestic sales for the month increased by seven percent from 47 357 units last year to 50 675, while exports climbed by 11.0% from 32 764 to settle at 36 359 vehicles.

Individual segments continued to be mixed with new passenger vehicle sales increasing by 5.9% from 31 801 to 33 669, while light commercial vehicles gained 11.7% from 13 003 to 14 523. The market for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles however contributed to the mixed results with the former dipping by 10.6%, and the latter increasing by a slight 0.6%.
