GWM downsizes in a good way

GWM has introduced a revised 1.5-litre turbo-petrol version of the H6 SUV to its local line-up. The downsized motor comes at a time where smaller, more efficient engines are becoming increasingly important for a vehicle’s success.

The engine delivers 105kW and 210Nm via a six-speed manual transmission. Claimed fuel consumption is 8.5 litres/100 km. The H6 also gets a new unibody platform along with MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension system at the rear.

The H6 1.5T features a host of standard features. The standard specification includes 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, LED daytime running lamps and keyless access. Tyre pressure monitors are also standard as well as rear park sensors that include a camera. Other standard specs include climate control, power steering, cruise control, electric windows all-round, electric mirror adjustment, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights with manual levelling.

There is also an infotainment system featuring a full-colour touch-screen display- which doubles as a reverse camera -that is mounted in the centre of the fascia and features radio, CD, DVD and MP3 playback. There are also microSD, Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary functionalities.

The H6 achieved a five-star rating in China’s C-NCAP crash testing regime. South African-spec vehicles get dual front SRS airbags, disc brakes all-round, Isofix child seat mounts and ABS with EBD and brake assist.

The H6 1,5T 4x2 manual will retail for R309 999. GWM has also announced that its H6 models will now come standard with longer 5-year/100 000km warranties as well as standard 5-year/60 000km service plans.
