It’s easy to tell it apart from its less-aggressive brother, thanks to a new front grille, black wheelarch liners, roof rails and front and rear skid plates in contrasting silver. The car is also available in a range of extrovert colours, including fashionable orange, ocean blue, maple red, pearl black, sky silver and titanium white.
The C20R comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels and a ground clearance of 172mm, which is more than enough to tackle the occasional dirt road.
On the inside it features air conditioning, electric power steering, windows and mirrors, remote audio controls, rear park assist and a radio/CD/MP3 sound system with auxiliary and USB inputs.
Safety is taken care of by dual front airbags, ABS and EBD. The C20R can also brag about its Isofix child-seat anchorages, which aren’t always standard in its price bracket.
The C20R is powered by GWM’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol, which produces 77kW and 138Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. GWM claims a combined fuel consumption of 7.7 litres/100km and a Co2 emissions figure of 179g/km.
The GWM C20R retails for R154 900 with a 3-year/100 000km warranty and a 3-year/45 000km included as standard.
