Honda Civic Type R confirmed for Geneva debut

Shown at various motor shows in concept form since late last year to much acclaim, Honda has now officially confirmed that the much awaited fifth generation Civic Type R will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

To be build at the Japanese auto giant's UK manufacturing in Swindon, the production Type R will reportedly closely mirror the concept in term of looks, and also serve as the first iteration to be offered for sale in the United States.

Although Honda has remained mum on power figures, rumours suggest the Type R will continue with the outgoing model's 2.0-litre turbo engine, believed to produce 254 kW and 450 N.m compared to the old car's 228 kW and 400 N.m. Only a six-speed manual gearbox will be available with the 0-100 km/h dash said to take around five seconds.
