Hot hatches – women’s perspectives

WE DECIDED to get some opinions from ladies on the hot hatches we’ve driven in the last few weeks; this is what they had to say:

Renault MeganeTrophy

FIRST off, this car is very easy on the eye; it looks very fast and in my opinion, the best-looking of its competitors.

The interior has improved from other models and has the standard comfort that Renault provides. Not so sure it will be ideal for everyday driving as it could make you want to race other drivers, from traffic light to traffic light.

I’M NOT a big Golf GTI fan as they are perceived to be more “masculine” but as a speed fanatic, the idea of driving a car that develops 164kW of power is enticing. I like having a head start pulling off at a traffic light, however, fact is, it is more trouble than it’s worth. I would probably be that girl with 100 speeding tickets. The upgrades would benefit people who visit the racetrack often, or who travel long distances; these drivers will get to experience the torque vectoring differential feature, but for a regular commuter, R20 000 extra is just not necessary.

STARTING from the inside, I simply love the interior; it has a bit more edge to it but at the same time very sleek and sporty. I agree with Sean regarding the exterior. It could use a bit more aggression, but I still like it. I’d say my favourite feature on the exterior would have to be the 17-inch Alloy wheels and the rear view is much better. My honest opinion on the new signature colour is that I’m not a fan of the green shade.

Overall, the new JCW looks and sounds impressive and for only R440 000 - not bad at all!
