Lexus has worked closely with experts in super-conductive technology to create one of the most advanced hoverboards the world has ever seen. The concept is the fourth project in, It’s Amazing in Motion campaign, demonstrating its commitment to pursuing new possibilities in advanced design and technology.
How did they do it? Well, the Lexus project team has used magnetic levitation with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to give the hoverboard frictionless movement of a kind that had been thought only possible in a Mission Impossible movie.
Although a completely different form of transport, the hoverboard shares design cues with today’s Lexus cars, including the signature spindle grille. It’s also been made using some of the same materials, both high-tech and natural, such as bamboo.
I, for one, think this invention will drastically decrease the amount of congested traffic that we are exposed to here in Joburg. Can you see a bunch of people hovering to work in the mornings, zooming around at low speed a few inches off the ground? The only problem is, we will be exposed to the elements and - of course - those blasted taxis!
