Impending Kia compact SUV could be called "Stonic"

Kia has reportedly filed a trademark for the use of the name Stonic on a new compact crossover expected to slot in below the Sportage in its European and North American product line-ups.

Online platform reports that the newcomer, expected to arrive later this year, will use the same architecture as the Chinese-market KX3, which was deemed "unsophisticated" for European driving conditions and therefore not offered for sale.

In an official response to the article in question, Kia Motors Corporation in South Korea has stated "As a global automaker with many future products continuously in development, we at KIA Motors often register trademarks of numerous candidate vehicle names during the development of new production models. However, the name 'Stonic' has not yet been officially confirmed for application to a future KIA model. At this stage, the article is pure speculation."
