Jaguar J-Type coming in 2022 with mid-mounted hybrid V6

Less than two months after applying for a trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, a fresh report from the United Kingdom has claimed that the Jaguar J-Type could in fact sport a mid-engine configuration when it arrives in 2022.

Based on the claims by Auto Express, the alleged successor to the F-Type is reportedly well into its development phase, and aside from competing with Audi R8 and McLaren 570 S, has been benchmarked against the Honda NSX given that it will have a hybrid powerplant.

At present, no images or pre-production test mules have been seen, although based on depictions obtained by the publication from the render site, Avarvarii, the J-Type will feature a more supercar appearance than the F-Type’s GT persona, with power set to come from a 410kW V6 with an electric motor on both axles making it four-wheel drive.

The publication also states that the J-Type’s platform could lead to the creation of an all-electric model to supplement to the I-Pace crossover, with the recently unveiled Porsche Taycan being classified as its biggest rival.
