Jaguar's M3 rival takes shape

Following reports as long ago as February that it might see the light of day, Britain's Auto Express has now published first pictures of Jaguar's rival to the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63, the XE SVR.

Sporting thin layers of camouflage but still identifiable from lesser models thanks to wider door sills, new bumpers, red brake calipers, quad exhausts and large alloy wheels, the newest creation of Jaguar-Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) will reportedly pack a 373 kW version of the tried-and-tested 5.0-litre supercharged V8, linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

While unconfirmed, rumours suggest that the SVR will ditch the traditional rear-wheel drive layout for four-wheel drive in an attempt to rival the upcoming Audi RS4, which could see it dispatch the obligatory 0-100 km/h dash in under five seconds.

Aside from its exterior tweaks, the SVR will reportedly also gain carbon ceramic brakes, an electronically controlled limited slip diff, revised dampers and fettled chassis. No indication of when the SVR will reach dealership floors had yet been made, with pricing in the UK expected to start at around £65 000 (R1 087 359).
