Only two notable changes have been made to the exterior, but if ever there was a car that didn’t need a style upgrade, it’s this one. The most notable changes, as matter of interest, are a new grille and new fog lamps on the EX model.
In terms of powertrains, there’s only one addition to the range. It’s a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 135kW and 239Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The new Sportage will be available in three trims - LX, EX and SX. All trims feature high-performance dampers, tilt-and-reach steering column, rear ventilation and reclining outboard seats.
As you move up the range, you get niceties like heated leather seats, panoramic sunroof, premium sound system and heated exterior mirrors. There’s also a new infotainment system which allows connection to the internet via a smartphone. It’s not clear which of these models will make it to South Africa, but Kia has a history of specifying just about everything in its local-bound models.
