Meaner Honda Civic Type R concept shown in Paris

Despite having only recently gone on sale in South Africa, Honda has released a series images and a video showing the prototype Civic Type R ahead of its official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show later today.

Based on the equally new European spec Civic hatch which debuted in the French capital on Wednesday, the study Type R, which is projected to go on sale next year, adopts a much more aggressive appearance compared to its predecessor with a deep front air dam, carbon fibre splitter, flared bumper with oversized air ducts, smoked LED headlight lenses, 20-inch black alloy wheels and a large bonnet scoop.

At the rear, the Type R features a completely redesigned facia capped by three centrally placed exhausts, distinctive diffuser and carbon fibre wing.

Not technical information was made known although expect the Type R to make use of the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as before, with a six-speed manual box sending drive to the front wheels.
