Meet Mr Juke, our new long termer

DESPITE its odd looks, the Nissan Juke has been one of the brand’s most popular models. We have seen a countless number of them on the roads. Why do people like the Juke? What does it offer and what is it like to live with? Well, we asked Nissan South Africa these very questions; they in turn gave us a Juke, an Acenta+ model and told us that we must keep it for four months. They assured us that we would find the answers to our questions.

What do we plan to do with Juke?

Juke will be our daily car, used for everything from recreational activities to the daily grind and everything in-between. The Juke will be spending a lot of time on the N12 highway, as our journalist resides in Witbank. It will be sipping sweet 95, which will give us a good idea of not only its comfort levels but fuel economy as well.

We suspect that our editor will use Juke to transport his golf clubs and his tyres for his race car. This will give us a good chance to test the durability of the interior and packing space. We have already found the ‘double-boot’ separated by a divider to be very handy when transporting goods that can’t be flung around.

We want to see what the car has to offer so the more time we spend in and with Juke the better we will understand. We will report back on our time with Juke via our weekly paper and via social media. We will compare Juke to competitors when we get them on test to see just how well Juke stacks up to the competition.

A bit more on Juke

Under the hood Juke has a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This little motor develops a healthy 85kW of power and 190Nm of torque. What we like so far is its smooth, quiet ride and its frugal economy. Our test vehicle has been around the block though; it currently has about 15 000km on the clock, which is actually a good thing. This is basically what a demo model will be sold on so it’s not brand new, out the box. This will give us a good indication of what a customer can expect when buying a demo Juke. This should be interesting. The vehicle has also been for its first service since we took delivery in December 2015. The service was a fuss-free affair with Nissan performing a thorough check on the vehicle before the festive period.

We do look forward to our time with Juke and we will be keeping you updated as we start our new adventure with this popular Nissan model.
