The Americans didn’t agree with this sentiment. Volkswagen USA gave a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol model to a tuning company called FMS Automotive to see what they’d come up with and also to celebrate the Jetta’s continued success in the States.
What it came up with was the ultimate Jetta. The FMS crew used a Stage 3 Turbo Kit to boost output to 316kW. That’s more than double the output in standard tune.
To tame the power, the suspension was completely overhauled. FMS fitted the monster Jetta with H&R Street coil-over suspension and H&R anti-roll bars. To reign it in, FMS turned to Brembo, who tricked the car out with a set of four-piston performance calipers and cross-drilled rotors. The car sits on a set of 19-inch TSW Jerez wheels and high-performance tyres.
As no pimping would be complete without an over-the-top interior, FMS tore out the front seats and replaced them with a set of black and beige Recaro units. The infotainment is standard Volkswagen fare and includes a navigation system with a rear-view camera.
