Merc gives SLK the AMG treatment

16.07.2013

MERCEDES-BENZ has given its trendy SLK range a slight facelift.

The SLK now receives as standard the AMG Sports Line, which adds a muscular front apron, prominent side skirts and a new rear apron to complement the car’s already striking and exciting design.

The seats further emphasise the SLK’s sporty nature, thanks to its specific vertical fluting and colour-coded top stitching. All contrast stitching, red seat belts and perforated leather in the steering wheel’s grip area are a no-cost option.

Mercedes has also introduced a third model to the range. The SLK250 BlueEFFICIENCY slots in between the SLK200 and SLK350 BlueEFFICIENCY models. T

he SLK200 BlueEFFICIENCY and SLK250 BlueEFFICIENCY are both powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine that displaces 1 796cc. For the SLK250, it produces 150kW as opposed to the SLK200’s 135kW.

The SLK200 BlueEFFICIENCY boasts the lowest Co2 emissions in its segment. If paired with the optional 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, it consumes just 7.0 litres/100km with emissions of 164g/km.

The SLK250 BlueEFFICIENCY comes with an automatic transmission as standard and consumes only 7.3 litres/100km, with 169g/km of Co2 emitted. It will speed to 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds and top out at 243km/h.

“The four-cylinder engines for the SLK are homogeneous direct injection and turbocharged, leading to advantages such as lower weight and reduced in-engine friction. These engines move the operating range of the characteristic map towards more favourable values, incredible power and torque and lower fuel consumption,” says Selvin Govender, divisional manager marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

The 3.5-litre V6 lying under the SLK350 BlueEFFICIENCY’s bonnet generates 225kW and will complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h. Overall fuel consumption is 8.3 litres/100km with emissions of 194g/km. Mercedes claims that this model is the most economical V6 in its segment. Steering-wheel paddles are also provided for quick shifts of the smooth 7G-TRONIC PLUS auto.

New standard equipment includes adaptive brake lights, Attention Assist, headbags in the doors, tyre-pressure-loss warning system and PRE-SAFE.

Pricing range from R579 238 to R763 673 and include Merc’s PremiumDrive 6-year/100 000km maintenance plan.
