Mercedes-Benz teases new CLS ahead of LA reveal

Heading for the Los Angeles International Auto Show next week, Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser image of the third generation CLS.

Responsible for starting the four-door coupe craze now over 10 years ago, the snaps merely shows a red CLS with its boomerang LED daytime running lights lit, while the second shows the now widely used 12.3-inch all digital dashboard displays.

Touted as being "The Original Perfected", the new CLS will ride on same MRA platform as the E-class and S-class, but more than likely with a significant cut in weight compared to the outgoing W218.

The biggest change will come up front though, where the previous array of V8 engines will be dropped in favour of four and six-cylinder units, to avoid overlapping with the AMG GT4. The same will apply to AMG models with the 63 designation expected to make way for the recently trademarked 53 moniker.

A selection of four and six-cylinder diesel mills will also become available, with a hybrid so far being kept under wraps. The W128's 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox will more than likely be standard on all models.
