Priced at £16 990 (R303 300), the 1499 GT pays tribute to the iconic 1275 GT original introduced in 1969, and as per its name, will be limited to 1 499 units with a production run from November to February.
Using the standard Mini as a base, the 1499 GT receives 17-inch black alloy wheels, front and rear bumpers, side skirts and boot spoiler lifted from the John Cooper Works (JCW), tinted windows, model specific door sills, JCW derived sports suspension and two colour options; Pepper White with black decals and Midnight Black with gold decals.
The JCW touches also continue inside with sport seats finished in perforated leather with red stitching, a JCW steering wheel, carbon black detailing and a anthracite roofliner. Unlike the original, power for the 1499 GT comes from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 75 kW, with 0-60 mph (96 km/h) taking 10.1 seconds. A six-speed manual is the only transmission offered.
