Mitsubishi Lancer revived as Asian market only Grand Lancer

A name likely to be retired in many Western markets soon including South Africa, Mitsubishi has taken covers off the brand new Lancer, affixed with the Grand prefix.

Leaked in Taiwanese spec earlier this week, the Grand Lancer will be offered in select Asian countries only with the three-box sedan incorporating the latest version of Mitsubishi's Dynamic Shield identity, and a series of bold lines running the side. Elements of the old Lancer are still evident at the rear though despite the new full LED lights, bootlid and bumper.

Inside, the interior mimics that of the recently launched Triton and imminent Pajero Sport, with the same layout highlighted by a eight-inch touchscreen display, new noise cancelling materials and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

Up front, the Grand Lancer will only be available with a 1.8-litre petrol engine developing 103 kW and 176 N.m of torque, with drive going to the front wheels via a INVECS III CVT gearbox.
