Mitsubishi Triton goes black Down Under

19.03.2018

Having launched the limited run Xtreme locally last year, itself derived from the Athlete shown at the Thai Motor Expo in November, Mitsubishi Australia has now unveiled a special Blackline version of the Triton available in four-wheel drive guise only.

Based on the mid-range GLS and slotting in below the top spec Exceed, the Blackline, much like the Xtreme, benefits from a series of (not so radical) aesthetics additions namely a black grille, mirror caps, door handles, sports bars and special graphics at the base of the doors.

Available in three monochrome colours; Black, Starlight and Titanium, the Blackline's interior is kept unchanged from the GLS, but comes with equipment such as push-button start, keyless entry and a rear diff-lock normally reserved for the Exceed.

Up front, the 2.4-litre DI-D turbodiesel engine has been left as is with power remaining at 133 kW and torque at 430 Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard with a five-speed automatic optional.

Pricing for the Blackline starts at $43 490 (R402 664) for the manual and at $45 990 (R425 811) for the automatic, but don't expect it to be offered in South Africa anytime soon.
