Mitsubishi's ASX updated yet again

Mitsubishi's compact crossover, the ASX is the brand's saving grace within the local automotive market. With this in mind the Japanese manufacturer has launched an updated version of this model which it claims now features the brand's new design language.

More afforable auto derivative

Mitsubishi has stated that it will now relase a 2.0 MIVEC six-speed CVT derivative which will retail for under R400 000. Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, states "We have to address the current affordability needs of our customers. Today's economy often forces buyers to opt for lower-spec vehicles, but our new ASX 2.0 GL CVT derivative offers the comfort and efficiency of Mitsubishi's CVT transmission as well as its impressive standard specification in a truly attractive package. When you consider Mitsubishi's world-class safety ratings, the new ASX 2.0 GL CVT is easily the best sub R400 000 vehicle on the market."

Speak the lingo

In true marketing fashion, the new design langauge is called Dynamic Shield which is said to be centred around a new front grille, which will be a common trait shared by the likes of the upcoming Outlander and Pajero Sport.

The ASX line-up now consists of five derivatives which all feature the same 110kW/197Nm 2.0 litre naturally aspirated motor as before. The transmission options include a five-spped manual as well as a CVT transmission with six pre-programmed gear steps.Claimed fuel consumption for the manual derivative is  7.5 litres / 100 km and and 7.6 litres for the CVT-equipped versions.

Safety first

The ASX range boasts a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating thanks to the  Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body shell,  seven airbags, ISOFIX child restraint mountings as well as ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assistance (BAS).The GLS derivatives will feature LED running lights, electronic active stability and traction control (ASTC) as well as hill start assist (HSA) as standard.

Spec level

The GL, GLX and GLS models come with  Bluetooth with voice control, cruise control, a multi-function steering wheel, electric windows, air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, rear park distance control and automatic lights as standard on all models. While GLX and GLS derivatives also offer a full-length panoramic glass roof, keyless operation, a full colour touch-screen infotainment system, heated leather seats in the front, and an electrically adjustable driver's seat, as well as a rear-view camera. The top-of-the-range GLS models also get a Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Service plan and warranty

The ASX is sold with a  five-year / 90 000 km service plan and three-year / 100 000 km manufacturer's warranty.
