The fight for the title was between two of the four Audi S4 quattro racers at Zwartkops. Groenewald and Michael Stephen (12 – Engen Xtreme) were the two contenders for the 2015 title and the pair kept the racing exciting right to the very finish.
With Groenewald (8- Audi Sasolracing) - the new champion, Michael Stephen (12 – Engen Xtreme) and his Audi S4 quattro finished second overall this season – and Gennaro Bonafede (32 – Audi Sasolracing) raced home to complete an all Audi S4 quattro podium for the year.
Add Simon Moss (38 – Engen Xtreme) to the mix in fifth place overall this year and the Audi S4 quattro competitors raked in the Manufacturer Title for Audi this season, as well.
“From a championship point of view this was special, because it is a title I haven't been able to add to my list of achievements,” said the newly-crowned national champion. “The team has done the work to put me behind the wheel of a great car; it's also been about real consistency out on track this season. Having a sponsor that is more than a sponsor, actually providing the product that gets us up front to make this achievement has been integral for our championship season,” enthused Groenewald.
The tense battle to crown the 2015 champion saw Groenewald and Stephen duelling right to the end of the final race of the season, keeping race fans on their feet as Groenewald raced to stay ahead, and Stephen worked on getting past competitor after competitor as he closed the gap to Groenewald, crossing the line for second place, behind Groenewald at the finish.
We, here at Autodealer, sure do look forward to more exciting racing in the 2016 season.
