The event was of course the first public unveiling of the new Toyota Aygo outside the Union Buildings in Tshwane. The new car is certainly more dramatic-looking than the old model; the front-end for example has a large "X" running across it, a rather apt car for the Red Bull event then.
The new model is a five-door for the time being and features a 51kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated motor, which Toyota claims makes the little car good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of under 15 seconds while using a claimed 4.4 litres/100km.
The official launch is in October so we won’t be going into too much detail regarding this city car until we get a chance to drive one. Toyota told us to expect features such as Bluetooth functionality, auto-door lock, electric front windows and air-conditioning.
