New Aygo appears at X-Fighters

ASIDE from the fact that I spent most of the Red Bull X-Fighters weekend in sheer awe of the skill and utter bravery of the twelve men who made up the X-Fighters spectacle there was a rather important little car on show.

The event was of course the first public unveiling of the new Toyota Aygo outside the Union Buildings in Tshwane. The new car is certainly more dramatic-looking than the old model; the front-end for example has a large "X" running across it, a rather apt car for the Red Bull event then.

The new model is a five-door for the time being and features a 51kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated motor, which Toyota claims makes the little car good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of under 15 seconds while using a claimed 4.4 litres/100km.

The official launch is in October so we won’t be going into too much detail regarding this city car until we get a chance to drive one. Toyota told us to expect features such as Bluetooth functionality, auto-door lock, electric front windows and air-conditioning.
