Pictured by on a back of a car carrier in Germany, the 4-series will join the recently unveiled Z4 and incoming 8-series in the Munich automaker’s soft-top line-up, and while the prototype spotted is difficult to make out thanks to the extensive layers of disguise and fake body panels, it will more than likely resemble the new 3-series with the same being said of the interior.

To be known internally as the G22 with the still-to-be-seen coupe set to be called G23, the 4-series will follow its sedan sibling and ride on the CLAR platform that will cut weight by some 55kg relative to the standard model, with the same assortment of petrol and diesel engines hooked to an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.

More details are expected to emerge in the coming months.
